The BLM Idaho Falls District, in cooperation with the US Wildland Fire Service, will conduct several prescribed burns totaling about 1500 acres in Central and Eastern Idaho.

The Bureau of Land Management will continue efforts to unlock new opportunities for America’s geothermal energy future with a competitive lease sale on Nov. 17, 2026, supporting local economies by harnessing natural heat resources for practical use and benefit. The BLM will offer 35 parcels totaling nearly 113,330 acres in Boise, Cassia, Clark, Elmore, Lemhi, Owyhee, Twin Falls, and Washington counties. The action will be held online via EnergyNet.

The BLM Challis Field Office plans to apply aerial herbicide treatments on roughly 2,500 acres in Custer County between Sept. 21 and Oct. 5, 2026.

The Bureau of Land Management completed a wild horse gather operation in Idaho to improve rangeland health and ensure long-term well-being of the Challis wild horse herd. In total, BLM gathered and removed 226 wild horses from overpopulated rangelands.

The Bureau of Land Management will begin a wild horse gather today in the Challis Herd Management Area, approximately 20 miles south of Challis in Custer County, Idaho. The gather is necessary to protect the health of the wild horses that depend on the area’s rangelands, particularly during the winter, which have been heavily strained by long-term overpopulation and drought conditions.

In a proactive step to reduce wildfire risk and invest in healthy, resilient public lands, the Bureau of Land Management Twin Falls District in south-central Idaho, partnering with the U.S. Wildland Fire Service, will conduct aerial herbicide treatments across approximately 27,135 acres of lands managed by the BLM Jarbidge and Shoshone field offices within Blaine, Elmore, Minidoka, Owyhee and Twin Falls counties. Treatments are scheduled to begin in September and continue through October 2026, depending on weather, wildfire activity and other operational conditions.

Idaho BLM will offer two timber sales on August 10.

The timber will be harvested from 423 acres near Malad City in Onieda County.

The Bureau of Land Management sold nearly 47 million board feet of timber across 5,542 public acres during 12 timber sales held in in four states, for a total of $7,555,225; more than $946,545 above the total appraised values.

The Bureau of Land Management, in partnership with the Idaho Department of Lands, will offer the Trail Ridge Good Neighbor Authority timber auction of approximately 4.8 million board feet to be harvested from 256 acres near New Meadows in Adams County. The IDL will accept oral bids only at 1:00 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time on Sept. 30 at the IDL Payette Lakes Supervisory Area Office, 555 Deinhard Ln., McCall, ID 83638.

The Department of the Interior is proposing to rescind the Bureau of Land Management’s Public Lands Rule.

On July 22, 2025, the BLM sold 135 thousand board feet of merchantable timber and roughly 17,000 lodgepole pine trees to address overstocking on 39 acres of BLM-managed public land.
