BLM Utah Issues Seven NEPA Decisions
- Green River District
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Vernal Field Office has issued an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Moose Well Pad: DOI-BLM-UT-G010-2026-0189-EA. The Responsible Official signed a decision record approving an Application for Permit to Drill authorizing Anschutz Exploration Corporation (the applicant) to horizontally drill a natural gas well from the Moose State 1025 Well Pad. The EA also analyzed non-surface effects of constructing the pad with associated infrastructure (an access road and pipelines) and drilling up to three additional wells producing federal minerals for a total of four. The project location is approximately 43 linear miles southeast of Vernal, Utah in Section 32, Township 10 South, Range 25 East. S.L.B.&M. in Uintah County, Utah. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Vernal Field Office has issued Categorical Exclusion (CE) documentation for the Little Hole Range Improvements: DOI-BLM-UT-G010-2026-0195-CE. The Responsible Official signed a decision record approving range improvement permits which authorize Scott McCarrel (permittee on the subject allotment UT14811) to install a waterline from Bull Pen Spring on UDWR-managed land to water two 1,000‑gallon troughs along Bull Pen Road; and to install a short (133 feet) drift fence to manage livestock movement. The two project locations are respectively in Sections 28 and 34 of Township 2 North, Range 23 East and Section 31 of Township 2 North, Range 24 East, Salt Lake Meridian, in Daggett County, Utah. The BLM decision only applies to lands under its jurisdiction; separate authorization from UDWR will be required. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Vernal Field Office has issued Categorical Exclusion Documentation (CE) under the Energy Policy Act of 2005 for the Provo Natural Gas Wells: DOI-BLM-UT-G010-2026-0171-CE. The Responsible Official signed a decision record approving nine Applications for Permit to Drill authorizing KODA Uinta LLC (the applicant) to horizontally drill natural gas wells from the existing Provo Well Pad. No new surface disturbance will occur. The project location is on BLM-administered lands in the SWSE Section 9, Township 7 South, Range 23 East, S.L.B.&M. in Uintah County, Utah within the Red Wash Consolidated WS-DK Unit. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Vernal Field Office has issued Categorical Exclusion (CE) documentation for the Pariette Wetlands Recreation Development: DOI-BLM-UT-G010-2026-0100-CE. The Responsible Official signed a decision record approving recreational infrastructure for the Pariette Wetland ACEC including a trail extension, fencing, benches, informational signs, shade structures, picnic tables, fire rings, parking barriers, directional signs, seven kiosks, an ADA-accessible hunting blind, and three spotting scopes. The project locations are on BLM-administered lands in Township 9 South, Ranges 18 and 19 East, near Randlett (84063) in Uintah County, Utah. - West Desert District
- The Bureau of Land Management Salt Lake Field Office has completed an Environmental Assessment (EA), Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI), and Decision Record (DR) to authorize Rich County Forest Health projects.The forest health treatments and methods include fuels treatments (including activity fuels), prescribed fire, reforestation/site preparation where needed, forest product removal/utilization where available and appropriate, and associated temporary access and rehabilitation activities. Treatments may occur for up to 15 years from the date of the decision, including maintenance/re-entry where needed. Commercial and noncommercial vegetation treatments may occur on up to 8,000 acres. Prescribed fire may be used to treat up to 8,000 acres; this includes broadcast underburn and/or other approved ignitions, implemented under subsequent burn plans. Activity fuels treatments, including fuels treatments associated with vegetation treatments, which may utilize piling/pile burning, mastication, lop-and-scatter, jackpot burning, or chipping may occur on up to 8,000 acres. The construction of temporary roads up to 20 miles may be established. Following treatment activities, any temporary roads would be closed and rehabilitated.
