LANDER, Wyo. — The Bureau of Land Management welcomes public comments on a proposed project to improve habitat for the Whiskey Mountain Bighorn Sheep herd. The public is encouraged to submit comments within the next 30 days to contribute to the analysis and final decisions for the project's environmental assessment.

The proposal involves the mechanical removal of encroaching conifers, such as pine and fir trees, from approximately 225 acres near Dubois, including portions within the Whiskey Mountain Wilderness Study Area. This action is necessary to restore vital winter habitat and open sightlines for the bighorn sheep, a herd that has seen a significant population decline.

Public comments are a critical component of the environmental review process and will be used to finalize the plan. The public notice and proposed removal area can be reviewed online.

Written comments may be submitted to Jared Oakleaf, Outdoor Recreation Planner, at the Lander Field Office, 1335 Main Street, Lander, Wyoming 82520, or via email at joakleaf@blm.gov.
